Career Pathways

The APEX Program for School Leadership features courses that pertain to various career pathways. This includes Teacher-Leaders, Rising Leaders (such as deans and assistant heads of school), and those who are currently or are working towards becoming an Academy Leader. Review the diagram below for more information.

Teacher Leaders seek to cultivate leadership skills and exercise greater influence within the life of the school while remaining devoted to the work of teaching. They may serve as team leads, mentors, or veteran teachers who use their experience and growing leadership capacity to support colleagues and advance the good of their academy.

Rising Leaders currently serve or aspire to serve in a formal school leadership role that supports the work of the head of school or broader administration. This includes roles such as Dean, Assistant Headmaster, Instructional Coach, or other positions that provide opportunities to develop the knowledge, discernment, and skills necessary for effective school leadership.

Academy Leaders are the chief stewards of a school’s mission, culture, and educational work. In addition to being entrusted with providing the vision, leadership, and governance necessary for the school to flourish, they are responsible for the formation and supervision of faculty and staff; the cultivation of a strong school culture; the oversight of curriculum and instruction; the care and communication of relationships with families; and the wise stewardship of the school’s resources, operations, and long-term health.
